The Reasoning are a Cardiff-based seven-piece rock band, formed in 2005. The band features the song-writing talents of Matthew Cohen (bass), Dylan Thompson (lead guitar/lead vocals) and Rachel Cohen (lead vocals) – the latter having been voted Best Female Vocalist by the UK’s Classic Rock Society for an unprecedented four consecutive years. Following the recruitment of guitarist Owain Roberts in 2008, a brand new line-up was established in 2009, featuring Jake Bradford-Sharp (drums), Maria Owen (acoustic guitar/vocals) and Tony Turrell (keyboards/vocals), who complete this outstanding group of experienced musicians.
The band’s accomplished debut album Awakening was released in 2006 and, boasting eight well-crafted tracks and a guest appearance from Marillion’s Steve Rothery, has since garnered worldwide critical acclaim. The release of their second album Dark Angel (mixed by John Mitchell of It Bites and Kino notoriety) in 2008, meanwhile, has secured an enthusiastic – and ever-increasing - international fan base.
Maintaining a busy schedule in the studio and on the road, the band have toured extensively, including many headline performances throughout the UK and Europe: and have also performed alongside Marillion and FISH on several occasions. Their success to date has been enthusiastically promoted throughout the music media, including many features in magazines including Classic Rock, Record Collector, Powerplay and Classic Rock Presents Prog.
The Reasoning’s first single was released as a digital download on August 10th 2009, and this cover version of Duran Duran’s classic track The Chauffeur stands as a stunning example of the band’s trademark “sound”, featuring dual guitars and powerful three-part vocal harmony arrangements. Rocketing through the download charts, the single reached the No.2 slot in the Amazon rankings within two days of release, championed solely by the band’s fans…and without mainstream music industry support.
With their recent recruitment of new musicians, professional horizons for The Reasoning are very bright indeed, and it is with great excitement that the band embark upon this next stage of their increasingly successful musical journey.
